Description

The FDG Whole Body Triple Phase PET-CT Scan is an advanced, highly precise diagnostic imaging test. By combining PET and CT technology with a safe radioactive glucose tracer (18F-FDG) and capturing images across three distinct phases, it provides doctors with unparalleled detail regarding your body's cellular activity, blood flow, and internal structures. This comprehensive, multi-phase approach is essential for accurate early detection, disease staging, and treatment monitoring.

Prepration For PET CT :

  • 4-6 hours of fasting required but Overnight fasting is preferred.
  • During fasting only plain water is allowed. Urea &. Creatinine report is Required within last 15 days.
  • Diabetic patients should have light breakfast 4 to 6 hours before the test time on the day of test, and must take the advised medications prescribed.
  • It is important NOT TO MISS the diabetic medication in the morning of the test date.
  • DO NOT TAKE INSULIN on the day of the test, before the test.
  • Must inform us about your diabetic history for us to plan needful for your test.
  • Please carry old report/CD.
  • One attendant mandatory to accompany the patient.
  • Do not do strenuous exercise on day of study.

How It Works:
This test utilizes two distinct, powerful imaging techniques simultaneously:

  • The PET Phase: A safe radioactive glucose tracer (18F-FDG) is administered. Because cancer cells and severe infections consume energy rapidly, they absorb this tracer and light up brightly on the scanner, revealing exactly where metabolic abnormalities are occurring.
  • The Triple-Phase CT: A contrast dye is injected intravenously, and the CT scanner captures high-resolution images at three specific time intervals: the arterial phase (as blood first enters the organs), the portal venous phase (as blood flows through the veins), and the delayed phase (as the contrast begins to clear). This dynamic sequence shows exactly how blood flows through tissues and tumors over time.

Key Clinical Benefits:

  • Unmatched Diagnostic Clarity: By capturing images at three distinct blood-flow phases, radiologists can clearly differentiate between benign (non-cancerous) growths, inflammation, and malignant (cancerous) tumors with far greater accuracy than a standard, single-phase scan.
  • Specialized Organ Mapping: It is exceptionally effective for evaluating highly vascular organs like the liver, pancreas, and kidneys. It highlights small lesions that might remain hidden on standard imaging.
  • Precise Surgical Planning: The detailed vascular road map provided by the triple-phase CT allows surgeons to see the exact relationship between a tumor and surrounding blood vessels, which is critical for planning safe and effective tumor removal surgeries.

Who Is This Scan For?
This comprehensive scan is typically recommended by oncologists or gastroenterologists for patients who require highly detailed staging, particularly for cancers of the liver, pancreas, bile ducts, kidneys, or gastrointestinal tract. It is also used to evaluate complex abdominal masses or to monitor the effectiveness of ongoing cancer treatments.
